$354 million settlement reached in the Containerboard Products antitrust class action

On June 27, 2017, Freedman Boyd Hollander Goldberg Urias & Ward P.A. attorneys Joseph Goldberg, Vincent J. Ward, and Frank Davis were part of a nationwide team of attorneys who recently obtained a $354 million settlement from International Paper Company in Kleen Products LLC v. International Paper Co., in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The lawsuit alleges that the defendants engaged in illegal anticompetitive conduct with respect to the sale of containerboard products and that, as a result, any person or entity that purchased containerboard products directly from any defendant during the class period paid a higher price than they otherwise would have paid in a competitive market.

Joseph Goldberg played a leading role in the case at the class certification stage and in the preparation of the economic expert witnesses for the litigation. Along with previous settlements obtained from other defendants in this litigation, this settlement brings the total recovered for the class to over $375 million.
