New Mexico State Police Investigating Deadly Crash in Dona Ana County

A two-vehicle accident that occurred on September 10th is still under investigation. The New Mexico State Police are investigating what happened on Interstate 10, near milepost 159 south of Las Cruces. According to the police, a ten-year-old girl died in the crash in Dona Ana County.

The investigation indicated that a 2012 Buick passenger car operated by a thirty-year-old El Paso man was going east on I-10 when its tire blew out. After the blowout, the Buick went in front of and was hit by a 2000 Sterling Commercial Motor Vehicle that was pulling a trailer. The vehicle was also going eastbound on I-10. 

According to a New Mexico State Police news release, the driver and two passengers in the Buick ended up injured in the crash and were taken to the hospital. The police say their conditions are not known. A third passenger in the Buick, a ten-year-old girl, was air-flown from the scene, the police say. On October 3rd the ten-year-old girl died because of her injuries in an El Paso hospital. The driver of the CMV, a twenty-nine-year-old man from New Mexico did not have any injuries.

The police say alcohol isn’t a factor in this crash and all passengers and drivers had seat belts on.
