The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau got a notification on July 4 2021 about an officer being involved in a shooting in Santa Fe. All New Mexico State Police officers were uninjured; the suspect was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment of their non-life-threatening injuries.
On July 4 2021, the investigators of New Mexico State Police got a call to assist the Santa Fe Police Department (SFPD) who had reacted to a man sitting on the rail runner tracks close to the Interstate 25 milepost 275. The suspect, who displayed a firearm at the officers, escaped from SFPD officers, and a foot pursuit followed.
The foot pursuit crossed I-25 and extended into a residential area of Santa Fe near Calle Pardo and Chaparral in Santa Fe. During the foot pursuit, the suspect shot at two NMSP officers at least once.
This investigation is led by the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau. The police will not release the names of the officers involved, until after interviews have taken place. The name of the suspect will also not be released until he is identified.
