Teen Killed in a Multi-Vehicle Crash on NM 68

Several cars were involved in a fatal accident that happened on New Mexico State Road 68 near milepost 17 north of Española on Wednesday, May 12. The multi-vehicle crash on NM 68 happened around 8:00 a.m.

The New Mexico State Police said that a 1994 Toyota 4Runner SUV operated by eighteen-year-old Siri Atma Kaur Khalsa from Espanola, was going north on NM 68 when the car, for unknown reasons, went off the road. The Toyota returned on the road and hit a southbound 2015 Subaru SUV, and was then hit by a southbound Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV).

Khalsa got fatal injuries in the accident. The Office of Medical Investigator pronounced her dead on the scene.

The forty-one-year-old driver of the Subaru, a man from Arroyo Seco, and the fifty-year-old driver of the CMV, a male from Los Lunas, got unknown injuries and were taken by emergency medical personnel to a local hospital.

The police don’t believe that alcohol was a contributing factor to the multi-vehicle crash on NM 68. The New Mexico State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit helped the New Mexico State Police Uniform Bureau with the investigation of the crash.
